autocar have praised the new a8 in their latest issue. calling it "best in
class", they like its sportiness, weight, & air suspension.
sound bites: "audi has finally cracked the sports saloon segment of the
luxo-class"; "the a8 is a brilliantly rounded, superbly refined saloon";
"forget the i-drive confusion, the mmi system, operating the vast array of
adjustments and controls is largely intuitive"; "here's an audi a8 quattro
that hides its all-wheel drive well: in terms of involvement and balance it
feels more like a composed rear driver".
verdict: "brilliant new a8 oozes both driver appeal and luxury. this car is
easily audi's best ever saloon".
also included in the article are comments from both m-b and audi designers
that bmw have aided their cause with the new 7.
overall, according to autocar "the latest flagship is audi's best car since
the great, original quattro".
interesting facts: the new a8 is over 300kgs lighter than the m-b s-class,
similarly to the 7-series, and a whopping 500+kgslighter than the phaeton.
of note is the moving of the front axle line forward over 60mm due to the
positioning of the front diff ahead of the torque converter.
