Coil-overs for type-44 (5k)...

I was thinking today about my suspension again. I've currently got my
little project car sitting on some Merwede 30mm drop springs and using
Boge TurboGas struts and shocks. I will be getting some 200q20v flared
arches put on as well. I am going to go for some Rondell X-Spoke 18x8
rims (the OZ units I wanted were just too darn expensive over here).

I don't suspect any problems on the rear, but what about the front? Can
the 200q20v take 18x8 up front using a ET35 offset or will the stock
lower spring perch interfere?

This brought up the question of converting the front to coilovers.
Pretty much the idea 2Bennett have. I'd use a coil-over conversion kit,
remove the stock lower perch and weld a ring in place to fit the
coil-over's lower support ring. What happens on the top though? Would it
entire necessary to do what 2Bennett have done and used a re-designed
top mount with some needle bearings and a spherical bearing or could it
be done quite simply with a machined upper mount for the coil-over
spring to sit up again the stock spring perch?

The 2B boys look to be running as large as 19" and 8.5" wide rims, but
that's with their coil-over suspensions.

Just some thoughts. If the 18x8 ET35 clear then I'm not going to think
of the coil-over setup, just keep what I have. However, I'm nowhere near
ordering the wheels and tyres or arches for that matter, but want to get
some of the list knowledge and see what folks have done.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

G.
