Ignition switch? He got a lot of keys on his key ring?

Radio. I'll look for my radio book for the instructions for code
programming.
or try:

buttons
> >at the same time, to get into the code entry mode" HOLD THEM FOR A WHILE

OR:
Thanks to the responses of several listers who kindly pointed out how
I had misunderstood ("Doh!") the directions in the Audi manual for
inputting radio code numbers, and now that the code has been faxed to
me by my Audi dealer, I am ready to regain the use of my original
"Audi BOSE" radio (in a '93 S4). However, I apparently left my manual
at home, and must be mistaken as to the step preceding the inputting
of numbers. **********************************************************
I just tried turning on the radio (which then displays
"SAFE") and simultaneously pressing the FM1 and AM buttons.
Unfortunately, while I press the buttons for several seconds, SAFE
does not change into "1000," which is the display I expected to see to
indicate that I could input the code.

I need the help of you guys.
A good friend just bought an '89 200 tq 20V, euro-model with the
RR-engine (yup, it made me drool!).

Car stalls at random rpm's, mostly about 4000. It will restart right away
perfectly and runs very smoothly.
He read the codes but they where all clean, no faults.
The car was resting for about a year

fresh battery. He also did an oil change.

My first thought was the famous-UrQ-temp.sensor but I doubt this is
causing the problem because the engine completely stalls and doesn't just
hold back at 4000rpm like the UrQ. Or am I mistaken?

Any thoughts? Things to look for?

Second (minor) thing: how to get the radio (Audi Delta) off 'SAFe'??
I know it's a combination of buttons to press to enter the code (which he
has)
but we stopped trying after 30 mins :)
Any BTDT's somebody??
