That much I did verify ;)

All the connections seem to be fine and solid.  next step is to pull out the instrument cluster and see if the cable is actually spinning internally when driven.  Problem is that I am out of town during the week and overloaded with moving during the weekends... ah well, I guess I'll do it around midnight...
