fuel distributor pre-delivery screen/filter?

In a 4kq, it's in a fitting that connects the fuel distributor and the
fuel delivery line (line from the fuel pump).  If you remove the fuel
line (under pressure) and unscrew the fitting from the FD, you should
see a small screen inside the fitting.  Take a screwdriver or something
and knock it out.  I'm guessing it's probably the same setup for a 5k...
 It is for a VW.
