Hi All,
While changing the oil on my 90 100Q yesterday, I checked the wiring of my
cooling fan and I found the fusible link for the fan was seriously corroded.
All summer long when the first stage comes on my voltage would drop to above
12 volts, second stage would drop the voltage to under 12. My poor four
month old metric belt just started chirping under the strain of powering the
cooling fan. So I try to clean the fusible link and it crumbles in my hand
:( I temporarily have no fuse in the system and the results are amazing. The
voltage has not dropped anywhere near 12 volts and the belt hasn't chirped
since. If your alternator seems to be struggling when the cooling fan comes
on check your Fusible link.
