Front axle on 200

Hey friends, I have a blown boot on the right front axle of my 1990 200. The
manual makes it look like a pretty easy job (get it up on ramps to keep weight
on the wheel, pull one bolt on the outer end, six or so on the inner side and
remove axle) but I'm wary of "gotchas". Memory tells me the bolts on the
tranny side of the axle are the triple-square type, so I'll need to get a
socket for that.
The big question - once that big bolt is removed from the outer end of the
axle, does the axle normally come out easily or does it take a puller or
pounding to back the axle out of the hub?
Also - does the exhaust pipe have to come down to provide clearance, or can I
work around it? (Looks marginal, so I thought I'd ask.)
Anything else I need to know about this job? Local shop wants $300,but I can
do it myself for a $100 rebuilt axle plus the outer bolt, so I'm not eager to
waste $200.
Thanks -
Al Powell
