URGENT info needed

I am swapping transmissions on my 86 4KTQ rally car. I want to put a tranny
from a 84 4KQ since the 1-2-3-4 gears are different even though the final is
still 4.11. Two urgent question I need help on:

1-The tranny that I was told came from a 84 4KQ does not have the tranny
codes on the side of the main housing where the Bentley says it should be.
Is there some where else I can look and would someone confirm the code as
well.

2-I was told that the rear diff from a 84 4KQ is the same as one from a 86
4KQ, so I don't need to change the diffs.  Can anyone confirm or deny this?
