Wow, this thread is really interesting to me right
now. First your problem, I think you should
certainly not have to float that repair bill.
Something was drastically wrong with those springs.
The only thing HD valve springs may accelerate is
lifter wear and valve guide wear.
Now I have a few questions, did you ever run that 272
cam with stock springs? It doesn't sound like it, but
if so, did you have any noticable valve float?
I ask because I'm having annoying issues with my car
making power above 5k rpms in 4th and 5th gear with
stock springs and a 272 cam. I'm either getting
seriouse valve float, or I'm blowing out my spark at
the 20 psi. I'm running right now. It just rips in
gears 1,2,3, but under heavy load in 4 & 5 it starts
to chug at about 5k. I have a feeling it's valve
float because backing off the boost doesn't seem to
help. I can also advance the timing 6 degrees with no
ill/positive effects when it's happening, which must
mean I'm not getting very good compression at that
point.
Any thoughts?
Last, I'd really like to know the brand of springs if
you ever find out. I'm planning on going with
Autotech's real soon, so hopefully it wasn't their
springs. I've never heard anything bad about them.
Later,
