Is there a thermo-time switch in '90 80 A3 eng.?

After the car has sat over night, I have been having starting problems,
having to start 2-3 times before it will run. Is this the thermo-time
switch?  If it is, I would like to replace it, however I cannot find where
it is. Does this engine actually us one?
 I have searched my Bentley but can only find the two switches that attach
to the hose flange on the side of the head. Neither of these are refered to
as a T-T switch. The top one is a sender for the dash guage. The other, I
believe is refered to as a NTC in the wiring diagram. The only place it
might go is the back of the head, but right now I can't see back there very
well, I just had knee surgery and can't climb in and about.

Help please!
