High Idle: Drove pretty hard

So you stuffed the accel into the firewall and the throttle
linkage bound where the throttle was cracked open to produce 3500 RPM under
load.
Lubricate the linkage and the throttle cams on top of the IM.
Our cars are old: Stuffing it to the floor either made the dry
linkage bind or the floor mat caught the peddle.
Sample of my adventures: ALL AUDIS
1. Floor mat caught peddle down - a few times even with the screw anchors.
2. 80 4K cruise meant top speed ~98 MPH (only accelerated)
3. Chipmunk put acorn under 200 20V linkage and the acorn rolled
under the throttle cam when I depressed the peddle. 3500RPM at start up
OUCH!
10V motors don't have this issue because they are mounted differently.
4. ISV in 10V 5 cylinders will allow idle to ~12-1500 when they go bad or
400RPM.
5. Throttle cable fell off peddle on Merrit Parkway Traffic. 20 MPH in 5th
gear
(wished for high idle)
6. Stuffed peddle to floor.
Linkage bind was stronger than return spring: 2000RPM.
7. 86 4KQ Had high idle ~2000 RPM on freeway. Got gas and lubed throttle
cam on IM
with WD40. Moved both cams but only properly rest one back to idle stop
(other cruise?)
Started car at gas pumps engine raced to redline.
8. Large soda bottle slid off seats during braking and wedged the
accelerator down a bit.
When engine takes off.....FOOT ON BRAKES...Kill ignition by turning key off
ONE click.
Be prepared to turn key back "on" if steering wheel "LOCKS".
If your really brave downshift: redline in first is more manageable than 4th
gear, etc.

Of course, I went
through the gears pretty hard. When I hit fifth it seemed to pull weird when
I
let out the clutch (like I didn't let off the gas) . Pushed in the clutch
and
idle was at 3500!
