A4 sunroof jammed open.

Must be my week for problems...Finally got a nice sunny day in Connecticut
and decided to open the sunroof on my 1996 A4. Big mistake, sunroof opened
but shows no interest in closing. No sweat, use the handy manual crank that
Audi thoughtfully provided. Wrong, sunroof appears to be completely jammed.
Anyone have any suggestions? It would seem that the headliner needs to be
removed in order to do any work on the sunroof. Looks like that would be a
major PITA. Is it as bad as it looks?
