I think the problem stems from the fact that they know "them Audis have dat double brake disc system", therefore they've been taught that nothing fits.  And, since the demand isn't that great, they don't have a test car w/ UFOs to test the fitment; they probably go off of some wheel specs that Audi gave them, and those specs are probably very specific.  Had both companies tell me that the 17" rims that I got wouldn't fit; remind me to laugh at them.  ;)
My suggestion would be to find a more popular car with the same offset, etc., like the late 90s A4, and go with that.
Also, I ordered some tires from TR one time, and they were a different size than recommended.  They wouldn't let me order them until a rep called me and confirmed that was what I wanted.  Once I told the guy my situation, and he gave me the legal spill, he let me confirm the order.  Don't know if that'd work for wheels, though.
Anyway, I digress; I'm going to the gym now.
