Luke,

The pin will not identify TDC to anything but the ECU - if at TDC, you
can't see the sensor.  You see a hash mark with a 0 like |0 that lines
up with the pointer in the bellhousing window just below and behind the
distributor.

Make sure you see this and it lines up exactly as I described in prior
post.  Go from there.

p.s. you need a flywheel?  I have 4kq, 5kq or NG with pins.

ok... looking at that bit of paint on the flywheel..
the more i look the more it looks like the former
swappers added their own tdc mark...
i cant see the pin to verify....
looks about 25 degrees off of tdc...
mind you the piston is almost at the top still
and both cam lobes are still facing up...
this would cause the engine to preignite would it not?
im going to pretend that mark is tdc and put the dist facing
one with it lined up and see what happens...
im almost betting that thats what happened...
they installed the pin in the wrong location...
if this is the case...
well let me worry about that after...
i dont want to pull the engine again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i dont have the money to send the flywheel away
to a machine shop...
guess id have to make a new one through the starter
hole... OUCH!!!!!
NOT FUN! and then it wouldnt be balanced...
why me? :)
