You forgot the SUBSTANTIAL price premium the 4.2l commands. Some
things will never change- 10+ years ago, consumers could get the
V8q(250hp) or the 200q20v(217hp). The 200q20v was lighter, better
gas economy, and at least $10k cheaper. Guess which one outsold the
other?
Back when the 4.2l A6 first came out, a dealer friend said that
people drove the 2.7tt, liked it. Drove the V8q, loved it. Then
they'd get out and look at the sticker, and nearly fall over. Then
they'd buy the 2.7tt.
I agree the V8 model has a great look, but it's not worth the price.
Buy the 2.7tt, and the second it gets out of warranty, modify it with
all that money you saved in the bank. Do you have any idea how much
power $10k(plus two year's interest) buys you for a 2.7tt? Hint:
gobs more than the V8.
