Thinner is always better, not only for packaging, but also for efficiency. Bar and plate cores typically flow better, weight in an IC is a good thing as often a large part of the IC's cooling is in the heat it soaks into its own mass, the other what it can pass off to the ambient air. Overall, however, teh stock core is a very nice piece, and with the right endtanks can make a good IC for up to 300hp applications.
