One of my old bosses had the ultimate backfire- her 100LS burned to
the ground from an engine fire(oops).
Perhaps one option to give consideration to would be single-point
injection, like TBI. I would think it wouldn't be that tough to make
the setup removeable so you could put it back to stock for
restoration purposes.
I believe Holley makes some TBI kits, which you might be able to
use/adapt? Or maybe Javad's 034 setup could be adapted?
