LISTER NEEDs HELP

This is a desperate plea for help. I drove my 1990 200 quattro wagon from
Chicago to Putney, VT, arriving this evening. I left on Friday evening, spent
the night in Erie PA, and drove on today from there to Putney VT (outside
Brattleboro).

The wagon was fitted with a Scott Mockry modified ECU and a 1.8 bar waste gate
spring on Friday morning (yesterday). The car ran just fine all day yesterday
when we drove from Chicago to Erie PA, and again this morning, easily reaching
1.8 bar whenever I needed it. However, after we had driven about 100 miles
this morning, the car suddenly started to act strange. I had the car on cruise
control in 5th gear ging about 75 mph, and as I reached a hill, the car began
to sputter, almost like it was not able to generate enough power in the 5th
gear to get up the hill. I switched the display from MPG to boost and it was
barely 1.2 bar, and the engine was sputtering. From then on to reaching my
sister's home in Putney VT, I have had to keep the car below 1.2 bar by using
gears. At 1.2 bar it starts to hesitate, and lose power. Driving from Albany
to Bennington and then Brattleboro, I had to go through local traffic and I
found that the engine also had difficulty running, frequently stalling when I
engaged the clutch to shift gears, or at traffic lights. It stalled and would
not start when I came out of the Putney exit from I-91. It started eventually,
and I managed to drive it my sister's home. I tried starting it afer it had
cooled a bit, and it did, but runs real rough.

I do not know any one in this area that I can take the car to for diagnosing
the problem and fixing it. We have rooms booked (cannoy be cancelled) in
Montreal for Saturday - Monday nights. We originally planned to take the Audi,
but will use my sister's Subie instead. I would like to leave the Audi with
someone who is knowledegeable tomorrow itself, and have it fixed so that I can
drive it back to Chicago at the end of next week.

Can someone please help with diagnosig the problem from the symptoms ? I
thought that both the boost problem and the stalling problems might be due to a
leak in the system after the turbo discharge.

I stopped in Albany and bought a Michelin Man hose, suspecting that there might
be a leak from it. I will have the new hose installed tomorrow morning. I
have also visually inspected the intercooler, and it looks fine. But just in
case,I have bought a strap to tie around it, and will install that too
tomorrow. I will have to also check the hose from the turbo to the intercooler
to see if it is busted. The dealer in Albany from whom I bought the Michelin
man hose did not have this hose in stock.

Is there a local dealer or an ace Audi mechanic that you would recommend ? I
need the reference desperately so that I can get the car fixed and drive it
back. Thanks in advance for your help.
