The knock sensor is a piezo-electric transducer element similar to
a microphone.  However it has very high internal impedance and you
won't really be able to test it with a multimeter.  Maybe if you
have an oscilloscope with high input sensitivity and high input
impedance, you could watch for a waveform while you tap on it with
a screwdriver or something.

Be sure it's secured to the block with the correct torque.  Too loose
or too tight and it won't work right.
