Custom Tranny Gears

Higher 5th gears?  Diesel trannies.
I installed a 5 speed tranny in my 80 (4 sp.) 4K, not realizing the donor
boneyard car was a diesel.  4th gear in the new tranny was higher than the
4th (top) gear in the old box, and 5th was too high to use anywhere but on a
really flat stretch of highway.  That little 1.7 was workin!  My actual fuel
mileage was actually reduced because I had to keep my foot in it just to
keep it moving .............  John
