Custom Tranny Gears

Dave,

I just received my short/close ratio transmission that I developed using of
the shelf VAG gears built by and German Transaxle in Oregon.

In my case it's a fwd trasnmission but I'm sure you can use the same concept
in a 016.

I sent a code ABV transmission to them and he added gears from other 013 and
093 transmissions.

The final product should produce a 1st gear similar to the original ABV,
while 2nd to 5th seats between the range of 2nd and 4th in a normal ABV.
This puts my max speed in 5th around 105-110 MPH depending on RPM.

I decided to do this after finding that I rarely use 4th and never 5th in a
stage. So if I could distribute the gears, I could have one more gear
(2nd+3rd+4th and rarely 5th) instead of (2nd+3rd, rarely 4th and never 5th).

I can't wait to put it in the car, but I just moved and I have couple of
piles to deal with until I can go back to work with the rally car.

Also, during the rebuilt all synchros, bearings, seals were replaced and a
LSD was added to the mix.

Bottom line I spent a good chunk of money, but I probably have the only
transmission I ever use in this car.

Later,

Carlos
ps. Another cool thing, the transmission came all clean and repainted.
