Service - Rant (NAC)

I'll admit to being something of a cynic, but I try not to bad-mouth life in
Britain too much, then there are days like today when I get the feeling that
everybody else thinks that life is a joke and that I don't get the
punchline.

This morning for instance
Joke #1 - I called at my bank to get some foreign currency (US$ actually) to
be told that they no longer have a foreign counter and all currency has to
be ordered in advance. This being in a city which is the most popular
destination for US visitors outside of London.

Joke #2 - I go to the railway station and ask for a couple of first class
tickets to Manchester Airport travelling on Saturday. No problem, two
tickets paid for. Ask if they would be kind enough to tell me which train I
have to catch to arrive at around 5pm to be told that there's no direct
service to the airport at weekends - it's a train to Manchester and then you
have to catch a bus the rest of the way.

And there's our press continually saying that Britain is becoming a service
economy, I think that they've missed out a word.

I dunno - maybe I'm the one out of step....

Rant over.

Sorry folks, but I just had to sound off about this.

Regards,

Jim Haseltine
