Getting keys made without a dupe

Hi Bruce,
Funny you would ask; if I told you, I'd have to rub you out. More
seriously, the locksmiths are supposed to guard that information. I don't
know to be truthful. When they've unlocked rental cars, American made, they
look somewhere and get the key code, but I was too upset with being locked
out, etc. to notice.
Technology and security issues have caused drastic changes in getting the
codes. You have to bet that the bad guys keep up with where they're
published. Some listers have mentioned having to show positive ID when
getting a key code from a VIN; that would be from a chart or database, a
closely guarded one that's not in the Family Album.
Maybe someone else on the list can shed some light on this. The people who
know probably won't say.
Cheers!
Jim Jordan
