I got picked up in my local pub a few months ago. Sunday evening, minding my own business,
sitting at the bar, staring at the floor. And this woman arrived.
After about an hour's chat, I went to the toilet. When I returned, the room was full of silly
smirks and one lady had a very red face. It turned out that she'd taken one of my earlier
comments - that I knew everyone in the room - quite literally, and when one of them went up to
the bar for a drink, she asked him about me. Nigel Stokes. Nigel, being Nigel, just turned
around to the room (about 20 locals I've known for an average of three decades) and said: "She
wants to know what we think of Phil".
Apparently there was a storm of bawdy, ribald and risque comments - all of which I missed.
Anyway - she's 6' 1 1/2", 240 lbs, built like an outhouse and could probably lift a corner of
an ur-quattro while I changed the wheel.
Unmoved by a trip in an ur-quattro, but likes the Type 44 wagon.
