Which turbo are you running? K26?
My guess is that if you are pushing 2.4 Bar at 3000 rpm with a K26, then
you may be seriously heating your intake charge due to the inefficiency of
the K26 at those pressures and flow rates. If this is true, then you would
actually get more power by running with less boost due to less heating.
What does the turbo map for the K26 look like? Is the turbo in a happy
place moving enough air for a 2.2L turning 3000 rpm at 2.4 Bar? Is 2.4 Bar
even on the map for a 2.2L at 3000rpm? Is it operating to the left or right
of the surge line?
Obviously I do not have a turbo map for a K26 in front of me now. I believe
SJM has one on his site. I will have to look at it later.
