1.8T vs 2.8 v6

I've been following the discussion about the 1.8T engine versus the 2.8 v6.
I have a 1996 A4 5-speed with the 2.8 v6 (AFC) engine with 160000 miles on
it. It pulls well from low revs, spins up to redline with no trouble and has
plenty of power for my needs.It's also very smooth. My wife who rarely
drives it and is used to automatics was doing 70mph in third gear the other
day without realizing that she wasn't in 5th.
 Is the AFC engine better than earlier versions of the v6 or am I just easy
to please?
