New clue on: Long cranking unless 2-1/2 Hr cooldown.

Hi,
Thanks to Tony Lum, George Tur, Ben Swann, Ian McArthur, Kneale
Brownson and Eric Kissell for all the help that's gotten me this far.
I did hook up an indicator light in parallel with the CSV, lo-and-behold,
start after 3 hr rest...the light flashes briefly on crank and again with
each revving until warmup. But cranking after 1-1/2 hrs cooldown (12 F
outside temp)...no flash!!!
So, first guess is the coolant temperature sender is out of calibration
and claims engine is at running temperature unless it's cooled to below 75
or so F.
My next problem is finding which sensor is the one that informs the CSV
section of the computer. I originally thought it was temperature sensor
trouble and decided according to Bentley for '88 5KCSTQ, p. 25.99a that
the one on the head-mounted goosneck pointing towards the rear of car was
the one. It checked > megohms between its 2 terminals and between either
and ground. I ordered a new one from Parts Bin but didn't put it in
because it too checked open circuit regardless of being in ice water or
over gas-stove flame. Besides this confusion, the Bentley figure shows the
sensor with a plug-type connector with three wires emerging while my
sensor in that postion has two spade-type connectors with no plug housing
and only two wires connecting to the spade lugs.
Can someone give me some help in finding the location of the temperature
sensor that signals for CSV activation?
And, what it's resistance range should be for cold and running
temperatures?
Thanks for help.
Lou
