I'll "third" this. Not a wise idea- I think the wrap for the turbo
is for protecting things that are near it.

Inside coating is preferable to wrapping for street applications for
the longevity reasons you cite; stuff lasts much longer for a variety
of reasons(mostly no moisture, less heat). For race applications,
wrapping of the EM etc is done so that interior dimensions are not
reduced. The heat loss keeps things cooler outside, and maintains
exhaust velocity.
