My 89 90Q has a fitting, lubed it when I did the clutch job.

It is the sort of thing that "should" be part of a "Lube, Oil and 
Filter" service.  But since vehicles these days tend not to have grease 
fittings all over them like they used to, the "Lube" part has been a 
rather forgotten aspect of this service.
