Uh oh, now you guys got on the wrong topic. 914s are what my shop is all about, and besides Automobile Atlanta we are the biggest source of 914 stuff. I personally own 7 of them, and have over 50 here at my shop. I even race them, actually have a team full of 7 914-6 race cars. I have here right now 11 914-6s (rare, 3500 made), one 914-6 M-471 (less then 100 made), 3 914-6GTs (46 made), and a few other rare ones.
You speak the truth too, 914s are aircooled cars. Anybody who thinks or modifies otherwise is going to be in big trouble with the VAG and Porsche gods one day. A hot 4cyl 914 is a VERY fast track car (not fast in a straight line), even better is a nice 6cyl powered one. My favorite is to put a '88 911 Carrera engine in one, 3.2l 6cyl with about 300hp with a chip and headers, all in a 2500lb mid engine car.

>No I didn't measure, it would be heresy to put a water pumper in this. The only transplant I would consider would be a 2.7 or 3.0 911 motor. Mine is a pretty hot 4 cylinder, the VW engine redesigned by Porsche. It isn't a horsepower car, it is a bliss car. Nothing else is more fun to drive and makes you feel so connected with the road. It isn't fast but the joy per mile factor is the best.
