200tqa clutch/shifter problem

while driving to work last week I experienced a noticable drop in stiffness 
of the clutch pedal.  It became easier to push the clutch pedal in and shift 
but since then it has become exceedingly difficult to shift into 1st, & Rev.; 
actually it has become difficult to shift all around.  
    I've tried turning out the adjusting screw on the main cylinder to 
lengthen the throw of the clutch but I'm not sure if I turned it out far enough.  
With the cold weather I've put this project on the backburner & gotten rides to 
work.
    Can anyone help me with this?  Am I barking up the right tree in going 
for the adjustment screw?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
