cracked wheel

Months ago while in SC I had new tires put on my front wheels.
Since then I've had a slow leak in one of them. It would deflate
over the course of a week. I finally got tired of inflating it, so
I took it to the local tire warehouse to have it fixed. I figured the
shop I used in SC installed the tire improperly. It turns out the
wheel has a crack in it (don't know how; it didn't leak before the
new tire, and I don't remember hitting anything hard enough to
dent/crack the rim). The tire droid suggested a good welder
could weld the crack. As I don't know this guy, I don't have a
lot of faith in his suggestion.

Can a stock BBS web/mesh wheel be welded? Or should
I shop around for a used one. I'm only a coupla three miles
from Chris Semple, if that influences the decision.
