Alternator loss/win

After struggling to get my alternator working correctly, I have given up
and replaced it. First thing I did was to replace my regulator, which
tested bad. The brushes were stuck (have you cleaned your brushes lately)
and that could have started the chain of failures. After spending $12 on
the regulator, my charge light was still coming on (mostly between
1-3krpm) The alternator wasn't charging enough. I check the grounds and
voltage at various points so it had to be a problem inside the alternator,
possibly a bad diode or open winding. I removed the alternator, preparing
to shell out $ to have it repaired. Just to be sure I was doing the right
thing, I called around and... Turns out CAP has ramanufactured 90A
alternators with a lifetime warranty for $99. Its a piece of mind to have
and alternator with a smooth comutator, new bearings, and an unconditional
warranty. At this price, my vote is to replace..
