Thanks to all that have replied.

I have decided for 1999, they have the dash and tail lights that i like
they did seem to have different center consoles (wide single din stereo or 
big stereo seemed to me from the pictures i saw, there also seemed to be 
different climate control, could anyone confirm this?)

the next thing is to actually find these cars
possibly going with the avant for the wife and sedan for me
but both definatly 1.8t 5 speed manual quattro (wouldnt consider anything 
else than a Qship)

my 4kq will be back together within the month
