10k change intervals on an (expensive :) ) turbocharged car with 
non-synthetic oil would be pennywise and poundfoolish in my opinion.  In my 
turbo Miata I run Mobil 1, typically the 15w50 (much better specs, 
particularly at high temp, than the other flavors) and change at 5k 
intervals.  There are a number of posters doing oil analyses on the 1.8T at 
www.bobistheoilguy.com, so you can see what others are doing and how it's 
working.  If it was my car, I would likely run M1 0w40 on 5k intervals.  
That particular oil meets the more stringent european A3 classification 
requirements, one of which is limited loss of viscosity under 
high-temp/high-shear conditions.
