3rd seats in allroad and A6

Up till MY 2000 (i think) all A6 avants were built to accept a 3rd seat,
even if the seat itself wasn't ordered from the factory with the car. The
seat itself is available through your dealer for the measly sum of nearly
$1400!!!!
After that, the car would have to have been ordered with the third seat in
order for it to have one, (can't be retrofit) since the floor wasn't
designed to accomodate the footwell nor does it have the anchors for the
seat and seatbelts.
Allroads (and A6 Avants) had 3rd seats available until very early in the '03
MY, at which time Audi determined that the 3rd seat passengers were not
being protected well enough to meet their stringent safety standards.
For that matter ALL 3rd seats in station wagons are technically right in the
rear crumple zone. Not where I'll be putting my kids anytime soon. I don't
know what I'll do if I need a bigger vehicle than a wagon, because unless
Audi builds a psuedo SUV type vehicle, I'm not buying something else.
Good Luck

unfortunately DO ride in the crumple zone!)
