Touareg vs Cayenne, aka duh?

Stephane Hi,

The Touareg appears to be a VERY capable off roading machine.
Its specifications are amongst the best of any category of civinlian 4X4.
Attack, breakover and retreat angles, wading depth, inclines and side slope
traversing angles, four wheel drive system setup, the existance of a locking
center diff and low gears as standard and an optional rear 100% locking diff
but more so the very capable air suspension system all add up to a very
capable off roading vehicle which is also extremely capable on the road.

Especially the V10 engined version is a monster.

Only drawback is the lack of a seriously sturdy towing point at the front in
case you get seriously stuck with it.
And some also add the lack of free space to mount a winch at the front.

As a proof of how convinced I am for the above statement I can only say that
eventhough I already own to genuine Camel Trophy Discovery Land Rovers I am
reade to place my order for a Touareg V10 and probably sell the RS2 because
of it.

Remember the Touareg V10 delivers 313 bhp and 750 Nm of torque (almost
double that of the RS2). And when tuned by Abt the power climbs to 373 bhp
and 860 Nm (more than double that of the RS2). Top speed is regulated
because of the factory fitted tyres. IF you use the tyres fitted to the
Cayenne Turbo you get the same top speed of around 265 Km/h and a 0-100 Km/h
acceleration time of 7 seconds. And most importantly you are even faster
than the Cayenne Turbo (and the RS2) on the in-gear acceleration times on
EVERY speed bracket.

Still been capable of crossing 58 cm of water (50 cm standard factory limit
for Land Rover products without snorkels), still having a ground clearance
of more than 30 cm (21 cm for the Camels) and still having a rear locking
diff which NO Land Rover vehicle ever had factory fitted as standard
equipment.

As for crossing the ditch with diagonal wheels been in the air this is a
proof that the four wheel system of the Touareg (and most modern 4X4 and
SUVs) is far more capable than the older designs. ETC and electronicaly
lockind diffs take the strain out of off road driving and cross axled
situations like that.

As for the wheel travel I do not remember the exact figure for free travel
but the air suspension's settings range from 16 to 30 cm (remember this is
not free travel). I seem to remember something like 30 to 35 cm of free
travel but I am not sure.

Take care and Merry Xmas.
Pantelis
