metric tools - not so dumb question?

It's one of those peaceful coexistence things. Yes the tool industry
standard drive sizes are 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and so on. It's like sparkplugs
that have a hex size of 5/8" or 13/16", but have metric threads (14mm or
18mm). Or tires that are metric in width but fit on wheel diameters
measured in inches. The metric rims (TRX) never went anywhere....other than
away.
