pre '80 5k control arm vs. 5k/100/200 '90?

I recently saw a pic of a pre 1980 front control arm for an Audi 
5000.  It looks very similar to the part used for the 84-up 5k/1c/2c 
control arms. Are they compatable and does that mean the type 44 
didn't have a new front suspension setup?
