Tranny problems?

Like Brett and Greg, I had this problem because of a loose clamp between
the front and back sections of the link that connects the shifter to the
tranny. In my case, a mechanic had liberally applied anti-seize a few
months previously while replacing the clutch.
On my 5k, it was no big deal to fix. With the car jacked up, you could
access the clamp from below, around the side of the tranny IIRC. You
just need another person to hold the shift knob in place as you tighten
the clamp, to properly align things.
