Hey all,
I need some help. I should have asked this earlier as was suggested by another lister.
I have some '88 90 FWD strut housings (uprights), and I am trying to put G60 brake
calipers on them. They have the correct caliper bracket spacing, but the trick is finding the
correct rotors.
According to http://www.20v.org/brakeupg.htm, if I have a 90q20v, the correct rotors are part
number 893-615-301 with no letter extension. This what I have sitting here in front of me,
and it looks like the rotor offset is too deep for these strut housings. The rotor touches the
caliper bracket before or pretty much "at the same time" so to speak as the hub.
It looks like there needs to be a thin spacer between the rotor and hub, or between the
caliper bracket and strut housing. I don't know if this is normally required for this conversion.
Actually, there is very little room at all for the dust shield thing to be installed, so perhaps the
answer is not in the caliper bracket spacing but the rotor spacing. I tend to think the rotor is
the correct one to use for this conversion, because (besides the part number being the
same as is recommended everywhere) it should be a lot worse from the descriptions of using
the wrong 276mm rotor from the Coupe quattro.
Perhaps the hubs themselves need to stick out a little bit more. I wonder if I need to get
some 90q20v hubs for this to work. According to Mark's site here, http://www.audi-
quattro.org/tech/4kg60conversion.html, it looks like I can use these strut housings, but
perhaps I need to swap my Coupe GT hubs onto them in order to use these rotors.
Does this seem correct to you folks? I sure don't want to dump more $$ into this conversion
on a set of bearings and pressings only to find out it ain't gonna happen or I was supposed
to use spacers.
This page http://www.audi-quattro.org/tech/4kg60part2.html confirms the part number I got,
and goes even further to say that I shouldn't need to swap hubs if the housings come from a
FWD 80/90. Well, that's what I got, but something's wrong.
Even Alex's page says this is supposed to work:

This guy seems to have converted his '88 80 FWD to G60's:

btw, the WOM in the subject line means Waste Of Money, as in paying for shipping these
rotors both ways. Darn broken internet, with its incomplete or wrong information! lol
Thanks,
Ken
