Hello all... I believe that Scott will not have the option to run the larger
Scirocco 10.1 rotors or Corrado brakes in his car if he intends to keep it
in ITB...

My friend went through the same process with his 81 CGT (now mine) which is
prepped to run in ITB. For a while, I believe that the rules said that all
CGT's could run the brake setup that was on the 87's... meaning 10.1's in
the front (4kq stuff?) and the disks in the rear that the later coupes had.

Later, they changed the rules to say that the 81-84 coupes (like Scott's and
mine) had to run what came on the car... 9.4 front rotors and the 8.1
(size?) drums in the back. I could be wrong, but I believe that this is
the way the rules were changed...

This came as a bit of bad news to me because now I'll have to convert the
car BACK to stock specs (find all the parts again) since it had been
converted to the 87 spec brakes. Shame really... since, by all accounts, I
hear the bigger brakes on the car were really quite impressive.

Also, in ITB, these cars have to run the original 14 inch rims, so the
Hoosiers in the 15 inch size mentioned would be out of the question,
unfortunately. I believe the PO ran 205 width Sumitoyo (sp?) on his car on
stock VAG rims.

My car doesn't have a Quaiffe, but the PO did run a welded diff at times and
apparently liked the results. I can't afford a Quaiffe right now, but we
will be experimenting with making a close ratio gear box with other gearsets
to try and make the car "squirt" a little bit better from the corners. With
that pretty high stock final drive and some closer gears, the car'll lose
some of its long legs, but hopefully gain some "quickness"...

Scott, I'm very interested in your ITB CGT project since I'm looking to run my
car this year in some driver's schools (maybe in March even), lapping days
and possibly some SCCA events (must get road race license first). The car
already has the cage, race seats and coil-overs, but due to a perpetual head
gasket problem (milled the head too much?), the previous owner never really
got to dial everything in the way it could have been. There's also some
body damage where someone tried to swap paint with the PO on the track.
I've got pics if anyone wants to see...

The engine's already got the good 4kq exhaust manifold on it and pretty much
a straight through exhaust coming out the passenger side, but I'd be
interested in finding a tubular header system if such a thing is made...

We'll probably start by putting a mule motor in the CGT (the engine from the
4kq before conversion) and establish a baseline during schools and testing
before I go pouring time and money into making an IT engine per the specs.
I know that these cars can be quick on the track, but as I'm just starting
out, I'm not super concerned with beating anyone (just yet).

We'll see... Keep us posted on the development process... good to hear
there are other coupes out there in ITB!
