Your tranny is certainly not limited to 200,000 km. I had mine apart for
new syncros at 220,000 miles (about 350,000 km) and it looked perfect.
Anyone who would make a statement like that is an idiot. You should avoid
that shop like the plague and advise everyone you know to do the same. The
only thing in the tranny that could possibly affect the prop shaft is the
bearing in the rear cover (which could be replaced without even removing the
tranny). Certainly no reason for a rebuild! Did the rear tranny flange
have some slop or something? Why would the guy want to rebuild the tranny?
How do you know the shaft it bent? Did the monkey at the shop bend it? The
vibration you feel may be due to incorrect shimming at the center bearing.
The Bentley is very specific about the measurement procedure. A couple of
millimeters makes the differnence between an undrivable car and one that is
smooth to max. vehicle speed. I can give you some specifics from the
Bentley is you lack the manual...
