A few years back I led a small group on a fall foliage tour. We
didn't get far- Theron's V8q died about an hour in. It wouldn't
start, even.
Turned out one of the crankcase breather hoses(I believe) had
completely disintegrated and fallen clean off where it was supposed
to be. If I remember correctly, it was attached at the very front of
the engine, right hand side of what I think was the throttle
assembly?(Sorry, it was a long time ago and I haven't seen a V8
engine since.)
We walked across the street to the auto parts store(talk about convenience)...
"What's this hose off of?" "That dead Audi out there<point>" "Oh."
...replaced it with some generic stuff(under $10 :-), and the car was
fine the rest of the day.
So, yes, I'd give the crankcase breather hoses a thorough look-over.
If they're collapsed, they should be replaced irregardless. If
there's a giant gaping hole in any of the hoses, chances are they're
introducing a massive amount of unmetered air, also bad :-)
Hope this helps!
