Buy new generic struts. BTW, I tend to position the struts such that
any runoff that would flow down the strut flows from Cylinder to shaft
(i.e. so that there would be less chance of water flowing into the
strut).
In that way, if it rains then freezes, you stand LESS of a chance of the
strut freezing shut. And water in the strut in general just doesn't sound
like a good idea.

BTW - generic struts are cheap and availible in any FLAPS.
