That would not be a problem, since the latch/release mechanism is on the
body, not the trunk lid.

What has probably happened is your cable has stretched or broken, or
somehow become misaligned/misadjusted.

Let's hope it's just stretch.  If you remove the driver's side rear body
liner thing (it would be a door panel, but there is no rear door...),
you will gain better access to the cable, at the knob end.  That will
let you pull on it harder/further, and maybe it will release.

If the cable is broken or something is wrong at the latch, life will be
tougher.  Basically you'll need to pull a rear speaker and go in with a
ratchet and lots of extensions and a 10mm socket (and a flashlight in
the other speaker hole?) and try to get the latch undone from the inside
so you can investigate further.

It's cold and snowy out and I am barefoot, or I would go out and get you
pictures and better instructions...

This is a red herring.  The coupe trunk can sit completely closed and
unlocked.  It does not pop up at all when released, the latch simply
disengages.
