Grinding from center? Rear end?

My '86 4kq had a similar issue; it was a bad CV joint at the outside of
the drivers rear. Easy enough to figure out for me; it made classic bad CV
joint sounds periodically. Loading goes up with the diff locked, so it gets
worse.
