Euro-UrQ: '80-shocks vs '87-shocks

Hi lists,

The family album told me the pre-'84 Euro-UrQ's had different shocks than
the ones that came from '84. Correct, because by then, they lowered the car
by 2 inches (as I recall correctly?).
Does this mean that the shocks of an '80 UrQ will absolutly NOT fit an '87
UrQ?

I ask this because it was always my dream to buy an early ('80 or '81) UrQ
and convert it into a rally UrQ (just the looks, it would remain a road car)
and I already bought a good set of second hand yellow Koni's that came from
an '80 UrQ.
Recently, I bought the wannabe-rally-UrQ but it's an '87-model (it was very
cheap, and in 'reasonable' shape, although it needs a lot of work).

In theory, with these Koni's, this '87 car will rise 2 inches, but can this
be compensated with other springs (i.e. H&R?) or can I better just get the
right Koni's (or another make?)? Or will these Koni's not fit at all this
'87 UrQ?

Any BTDT's, tips, advise?

TIA!
