confused about synthetic gear oil

My 200q20v blew a seal while I was in Utah last month, and the Audi fluid
was what the dealership in Salt Lake refilled it with after replacing the
seal.  Last week we had a -27 F morning here in Northern Michigan and there
was no indication of sluggish shifting.
