I found this very informative page on the web.
Check out the "home" site as there is alot of usefull
info there.

Back to the lube issue.
Why is it "necessary" to use Synthetic in the
Transm/center diff resevior especially since the
Bently does not call for it nor was the car designed
for it?
Is it more of an issue of advice, not necessity?
(I just purchased a bunch of 80w90 API/GL-5 to use in
both the front and rear resivior.)
The stuff is actually titled "Hypo C," the C denoting
the MIL L-2105"C" rating, I assume.
I assume the "MIL" rating as with the "API/GLx" rating
is a measure of how good the lube is considering these
numbers and letters represent testing standard.
The lower the letter ABC... and the higher the number,
......GL-345..... then the better the oil.(?)
Would I ultimately be doing DAMAGE to my transmition
and center diff by putting in the GL-5 stuff and not
the GL-4?? Or by not using Synthetic?
Also might there be an issue of using synthetic as it
may dislodge any sediment in the case that would
otherwise stay in place? I have heard this being an
issue in the engine compartment and wondered if it may
apply to gear cases.
Any issues with tranny seal deterioration by using
synthetic or the wrong oil?
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Can anyone explain this?
TIA
